Seen in a letter from a reader in this week’s Economist, who wrote:

SIR – Don’t underestimate the efforts of Congress in keeping the American tax code up to date (“April’s hard truths”, April 15th). For example:

“Schedule A, itemised deductions, 2005. What’s new: Certain whaling captains may be able to claim a charitable deduction for whale hunting expenses. See ‘gifts to charity’ on page A-6 for more details.”
